Geografic Location

The National University of San Luis is in the province of San Luis located in the geographic center of the Argentine Republic.  This territory has 76,748 km 2 of surface and three hundred twenty thousand inhabitants, who integrate a population in evident transformation. It limits with the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Cordoba and La Pampa, with which a suitably expeditious communication exists from the last years, due to the improvement of the road infrastructure. The city of San Luis, capital of the province, was founded the 25 of August of 1594 by the Gral. Luis Jofré de Loayza and Meneses and counted from the beginning with its own Town hall. The 26 of February of 1820 an Open Town hall declares the autonomy and assumes legislative and executive functions.  This fact considers the birth of the Province of San Luis.  The economic activity of San Luis in the last fifteen years registered a dynamism without precedents within the framework of deep structural transformations.  This dynamism, that had like pivot the location of new industrial activities induced by the promotion regime, had an impact that became general in the assembly of the provincial productive activities. In 1982 the Law of Industrial Promotion is sanctioned (Law Nº22.072) that grants special benefits to the companies and investors that is industrial activities in the provinces of San Luis and Catamarca. This promotional scheme significantly impelled the installation of industrial plants in the province altering drastically existing the farming productive profile and of services. Within the framework from this special regulation two Industrial Parks arise, one located in the city of San Luis and another one in the city of Villa Mercedes.
